Fence Staining
Fence staining covers cedar and pressure-treated wood fences across DFW. We clean the wood, let it dry, and apply a semi-transparent or solid stain that seals the wood and slows the graying and splitting caused by Texas sun.
What It Covers
Cedar fences, pressure-treated pine fences, fence caps, and horizontal or vertical board fencing. New fences and re-staining of existing fences.

How We Prepare
Prep is where the hours go and where the finish lasts. Here is the sequence for fence staining.
- 01Pressure wash or hand-clean the fence to remove dirt, mildew, and gray wood fibers
- 02Apply a wood brightener or cleaner if the fence has mildew or UV graying
- 03Allow the wood to dry fully — typically 48 hours after cleaning
- 04Sand any rough spots or splinters
- 05Mask adjacent surfaces — concrete, landscaping, siding
- 06Apply the first coat of stain with a brush, roller, or sprayer depending on the product
- 07Back-brush to work the stain into the wood grain
- 08Apply a second coat per the product specification
What Drives The Price
Every estimate is different. These are the factors that move the number on a fence staining project.
Factor
---
Linear footage of fence
Fence height — 6 ft vs 8 ft
Wood type — cedar or pressure-treated pine
Condition of the wood — weathered wood needs more prep
Stain type — semi-transparent vs solid
Whether the fence has been stained before
Access — slopes, tight spaces, landscaping
Coat count
No dollar figures here — every project is different. Call for a real number.
On DFW Properties
Texas sun is hard on cedar fences — south- and west-facing fence lines gray and split faster, and DFW's 100°+ summers accelerate the process.
Spring storms and high humidity in DFW promote mildew on fence lines, especially where fences are shaded by landscaping or on north-facing exposures.
Newer subdivisions in Keller, Southlake, and Colleyville often have cedar privacy fencing installed by the builder that needs staining within the first year to protect the wood.
How To Compare Estimates
Not all estimates cover the same work. Here is what to check when comparing bids for fence staining.
Whether cleaning is included
What stain product and type is used
Coat count
Whether the fence is allowed to dry between cleaning and staining
How landscaping and adjacent surfaces are protected
Whether back-brushing is included
What is excluded
Expected lifespan of the stain
Common Questions
Every 2 to 4 years for semi-transparent stains, and 4 to 6 years for solid stains. South- and west-facing fence lines need re-staining sooner because of sun exposure. We can assess your fence during the estimate and tell you honestly whether it needs staining now.
Reviews
"Very impressed with this company. It is a family. They all play a role. They came to our house to make a bid. I had a price that evening. Once we decided on Cast Castro, we set a date (literally 2 days later!). They arrived on time. They worked as a team, were very professional and meticulous, kept the house as clean as possible, and finished when promised."

"Happy with the professional work Cast Castro did for our exterior paint job and for the right price. They replaced rotted wood, meticulously prepped the house and painted samples on parts of the house to get an idea of the finished work. Cast Castro is thorough in their process."
